It may not be a great time for going out, but it's my hope everyone finds some small way to celebrate and have a bit of fun, since lots of peoples's anxiety levels are probably elevated. In any case, have a good, fun time, and hopefully don't do anything that'll scare the pets, kids, or your spouse.

MWLUG Success and some thoughts on themes of the conference

MWLUG was a great success as far as I’m concerned. Each time I’ve gone I’ve had the great enjoyment of being able to attend some high quality sessions, meet with lots of colleagues and friends from the community, and get a view into products and solutions many people are undertaking, over conversations and interactions outside of the sessions.

If you were able to attend the ICON US (formerly IamLUG) virtual event, then you lucked out. There were a great many good sessions that I was sadly not able to attend all of, on account of unavoidable travel (more on that in a minute).

Connect Success

IBM Connect 2016 is in full swing and I’m enjoying the sessions I’ve attended, some of the news announced from some of the IBM talent that has presented, and even had a good time at my session. Thank you to everyone that came to my session; we had a decent turn out. The promise of an “amazing demo” was, I hope, mostly true.

MWLUG has been going great, as expected. The worst thing I’ve been fighting is the overlap of some really good sessions. In fact, mine went up against two other app dev sessions and one entitled “free beer”. It would seem I need to do a better job of bribing and/or coercing @RichardMoy.

After a session chalk talk in January, I guess I’ve got the speaking bug. I feel like I have a lot to share, some of which is better done in-person. This time around, I’ll be presenting on why the segregated front-/back-end application development pattern is a performance enhancing boon.

Blue Chalky Soup

This is the code name I gave my boiled down session to keep it more in fitting with IBM’s description of a Chalk Talk, I got interesting with things. Specifically a reveal.js mini presentation (mostly so I could give people further reading or references and resources), served by a Node.js/Express app, with live updating presenter controlled slide state, triggered via a web socket.

A Few ConnectED Thoughts

Also known in some circles as “LotusSphere 15”, the 2015 IBM ConnectED conference has now come to an official close. This was my first Connect-usSphere and, making things more interesting, I was named an IBM Champion for 2015 about the time when I knew I would be a speaker (even if it was just a Chalk Talk).
