Notes Indexing Facility (NIF) is original equipment for Notes/Domino. It is the technology that enables folders and views, core Domino objects used universally to display and order sets of document summaries. Those objects are programmable down to the summary contents and selection in the document sets.

The Andrews – Manby and Davis – presented the Domino AppDev work we’ve done and are doing for V11 and V12 this morning. There were several slides on DQL, one of which cited some performance gains in V11. I hope this brings a little clarity and sets expectations, because DQL is already wicked fast and getting faster.

“Data structures” is a course at institutions teaching programming and engineering everywhere in the world. It’s necessary because students will soon discover work done (often LONG) before their time that has placed data in memory and on disk in ways that vary a lot by usage and data contours.

Every trip I take there are moments of apprehension. I won’t call them fear; it’s not that strong a sentiment. I just say to myself “Well, I wonder how this will turn out.” And this trip had a few of them, the first of which happening at the Düsseldorf train station trying to get a ticket to my final destination in Gelsenkirchen.
