#Newin12 Domino ID Vault

By Gabriella Davis | 6/1/21 2:24 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

As I posted last week, Domino 12 and Sametime 11.6 and Traveler 12 and Nomad Web 1.0 are all out and there’s lots of good news for admins, users and developers alike but since I’m an admin that’s what I’m going to talk about. Instead of a large dull blog listing all the things I think are most interesting useful, I’m going to do a series of short slightly-less-dull blogs focusing in on each one individually.

#NewIn12 It’s Grouptastic

By Gabriella Davis | 6/1/21 3:03 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Starting with the simplest – the ability to see what groups a person is in by selecting “Find Groups” from their person document. Yes we have had some of this before in the form of the “Manage Groups” dialog in the People and Groups view but this is more detailed, and most importantly printed on screen.

#NewIn12 – What Configuration Is My Server Using?

By Gabriella Davis | 6/1/21 3:03 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Such a simple thing that will again save me a lot of time. Open your server document and you now have an option to find and view any configuration document that server is assigned to. Click “Find Server Config”

Some Stumbles Installing Sametime 11 FP1

By Gabriella Davis | 6/18/20 4:48 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

This week I was installing Sametime v11 on Linux as a test for a customer where I needed to confirm code written specifically for Windows would compile and work for Sametime on Linux. I hit several (now resolved) problems during the install that I wanted to share here.

All About That Volt (v11 launch)

By Gabriella Davis | 12/4/19 3:12 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

We are still a few hours out from the v11 launch event for Domino and Sametime live from Tokyo but there is already much talk about “Volt” a low code (maybe no code) development tool. I found this great short demo video which shows what it is better than I can explain having not touched it myself.

Problems With MongoDB During Sametime Install

By Gabriella Davis | 7/24/19 12:46 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

In my previous blogs I discussed installing Sametime 10. My installs all ran perfectly except for one point – when I tried to install MongoDB as a service it installed but then wouldn’t start with the service error “1053”, reported as “service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion”.

Installing Sametime 10 – The Proxy Server

By Gabriella Davis | 7/24/19 12:44 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

The Sametime Proxy Server is needed if you have a Community server you want people to login to using either a web or mobile client, this includes having Sametime awareness for other products such as Verse or Connections. The Sametime Proxy server uses a DB2 database for iOS push notifications.

Installing Sametime 10 Limited Use

By Gabriella Davis | 7/8/19 12:05 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

A slight delay on this blog, which I promised to write last week, but I have a good excuse. My original plan was to do an in-place upgrade as Sametime 10 is still 32bit-only enabling it to be upgraded on top of your existing Community Server so long as the underlying Domino install is at least 9.0.1 FP10 32bit.

By Gabriella Davis | 5/22/19 1:49 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

This is my session on Domino Server Health given at Engage in Brussels last week. If you’re a Domino administrator how do you decide what to monitor on your servers and how to manage them ? What are the key things to monitor? How do good practice management tools such as statistics reporting, DDM, cluster symmetry, database repair and policy settings make your work lighter and faster. Finally we’ll talk about some of the “must dos” in the day, week and month of a Domino admin.

By Gabriella Davis | 5/16/19 1:25 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

I have just returned from Engage UG – Theo Heselmans’ European conference, this year held at Autoworld in Brussels. A beautiful location, even for someone who cares little for cars (but enjoys belgian beer, frites and chocolate).

Notes pre 10.0.1 crashing on Mojave

By Gabriella Davis | 4/5/19 9:55 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Matteo Bisi

A customer reported this week that their Macs were suddenly all crashing when trying to send mail , reply or forward.  Which is odd.. until I found this technote with the following statement updated on April  1st As of April 1, 2019, IBM does not recommend upgrading to 10.14.4 for customers running pre-Notes 10.0.1 releases…

Language Packs, Verse and A New App Dev Pack, Someone Has Had A Busy Week.

By Gabriella Davis | 4/5/19 1:46 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

This week the G1 language packs for Notes 10.0.1 that include French, German, Japanese, Italian, Brazilian, Chinese and Korean were made available. If you are now having a bit of deja vu that’s because these language packs were already released once and very quickly withdrawn when it was discovered there were considerable problems in the way the translations had been done. To their credit HCL withdrew the products almost immediately when they were told of the issues and have been working to redo and re-release them all.

A No-Brainer For Domino Admins

By Gabriella Davis | 2/7/19 3:50 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Do you want to be able to get a free audit report of your Notes clients, including what hardware they are using, what versions of Notes, what memory and disk each machine has, and what databases are on their workspaces?

Whooomf – All Change. HCL Buys The Shop…

By Gabriella Davis | 12/7/18 1:30 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

According to this Press Release as of mid June 2019, HCL take ownership of a bunch of IBM products including Notes, Domino and Connections on premises. Right now and since late 2017 there has been a partnership with IBM on some of the products such as Notes, Domino, Traveler and Sametime* so this will take IBM out of the picture entirely. Here are my first “oh hey it’s 4am” thoughts on why that’s not entirely surprising or unwelcome news ..

Deploying The AppDev Pack – An Admins Guide

By Gabriella Davis | 11/4/18 5:33 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Over here on the blog is Tim’s next entry talking about Node development and Domino, this time he explains how to use the early release of the app dev package to access (read and write) Domino data via Node. However I don’t let developers do Domino admin so this is the bit where I explain how to configure Domino. It’s all very easy and also all still early release so things may well change for GA.

By Gabriella Davis | 10/9/18 9:29 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Announced at the Domino 10 launch today: if you have let your licensing for Domino lapse you can renew it until the end of the year saving up to 50%, and if you have licensing and need more then IBM will discount new licensing by up to 20% until the end of the year.

Deletion Logs – What’s Coming In V10

By Gabriella Davis | 10/2/18 4:13 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

So deletion logs.. currently (without custom code) we cannot tell who deleted a document and what document they deleted in which database. With v10 deletion logging is now a standard trigger on the database that creates an entry in a delete.log file in the IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT directory detailing every deletion activity.

Apple Mojave and IBM Notes 9.0.1

By Gabriella Davis | 9/27/18 5:08 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

If you have trouble installing Notes 9.0.1 on Mojave with the installer erroring with "File /Applications/Notes.app/Contents/MacOS/rcp/rcplauncher not found. Provisioning process failed to launch or was terminated before status could be determined." a very quick reminder for this error that occured first on the APFS file system using High Sierra - make sure you have downloaded…

In this session we’ll review how to install and run Domino in a docker container, whether it can support external clustering and the decisions to consider when designing container architecture.

A New Era, A New Future, A New Domino

By Gabriella Davis | 10/25/17 12:54 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Some of you may have already seen the tweets out of HCL and the announcement from IBM on the new strategic partnership for ICS products that IBM have just entered into with HCL. To explain things as simply as possible this means that HCL will take over the development of most of the ICS products whilst IBM continues to manage the product strategy, marketing and licensing.

By Gabriella Davis | 8/12/17 9:53 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Last week I attended and presented at MWLUG in Alexandria, VA. This was my third MWLUG event and the biggest so far. Lots of great and varied content, I even went to a couple of developer sessions, thanks to Richard Moy and the rest of the MWLUG team for putting on another great show.
