Do you want bleedyellow.com? The charity auction has opened

By René Winkelmeyer | 8/21/17 3:28 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Some time ago I was fast enough to catch the bleedyellow.com domain when it expired. Nowadays I’ve no use for it – maybe others want it. Instead of just letting the registration expire I’m bringing it to a good cause. If you want it, you can have it – for some money that goes to a charity.

It’s speaking season. And it’s engage.ug – the largest ICS User Group meeting in Europe. This time I’ll be speaking about a – in my opinion – very important topic for any developer that does Java development.

Proof of Concept – Migrating Notes RichText to Markdown – Part II

By René Winkelmeyer | 1/5/16 1:47 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

As explained here there are some preconditions that have to be met for the conversion. The real-life usage may (and should) be more enhanced. But I wanted to provide a way that achieves the goal in a (hopefully) simple way – so that everybody can easily re-create the results for him- or herself.

Proof of Concept – Migrating Notes RichText to Markdown – Part I

By René Winkelmeyer | 1/4/16 1:56 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

First of all: this is not a blog post about “how to move my data to another platform”. It is about combining several (long) existing technologies to move some of your structured data to a lossless format like Markdown.

IBM has published a new release of IBM Notes for Mac OS X. Legally it’s 9.0.1 – technically it’s 9.0.2. With the upcoming (tomorrow) release of Mac OS X El Capital 10.11 IBM had to deliver an update to the IBM Notes Client so that it leverages Java 8 as runtime for the Eclipse based client.

Compiling Vaadin widgetsets for Domino

By René Winkelmeyer | 8/26/15 12:59 AM | - | Added by John Oldenburger

I’ve written and talked in the past that my preferred web framework is nowadays Vaadin. Vaadin uses so called widgets which represent the UI in the browser application which is then tied to some backend code. You can read more about them in this chapter.

Meetups, usergroups, conferences and YOU are the blood in the body of each technology

By René Winkelmeyer | 8/6/15 8:16 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This is a post that I wanted to write for a long time. I’ve never really finished my thoughts, but I think it’s now time to get that out of my head. Let’s start with a very important statement: I won’t write about a specific technology or vendor in here. What I want to say is about technology – and passion – in general. Even if my experience is mainly bound to some specific technology.

Update your SSL on servers to support TLS 1.2 BEFORE iOS 9 and OS X 10.11

By René Winkelmeyer | 7/14/15 2:01 PM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Oliver Busse

I recently learned that there are still people around there who haven’t their servers (Apache, Domino, whatever) updated to support TLS 1.2. If you belong to this group and you’ve iOS devices (or Macs) accessing that server: read and act!

Hiding Domino HTTP authentication in Vaadin applications

By René Winkelmeyer | 6/18/15 1:07 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

All web based applications that I’m building nowadays are based on Vaadin. If you haven’t heard of this framework I highly recommend to check it out. One of the benefits of Vaadin is that you can run the same application on multiple server platforms. Those platforms are in our case IBM Domino and IBM WebSphere Liberty.

Using the Websphere Liberty Profile Maven repo with Gradle

By René Winkelmeyer | 6/16/15 6:49 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This is obviously not a biggy, so mainly a short reminder for myself. For the current development we’re using the Websphere Liberty Profile (WLP) a lot. Based on our latest efforts of moving everything to Gradle I ran into the situation to setup the WLP repos for that.

Using remote TLS/SSL systems with untrusted Certification Authorities in IBM Domino 9+

By René Winkelmeyer | 6/2/15 1:11 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

One of the best kept secrets starting with Domino 9 is how to handle TLS/SSL connections to untrusted 3rd party Certification Authorities. I’m not going into detail what TLS/SSL means. There are thousands of websites explaining it already.

Self-signed SSL host certificates are for beginners

By René Winkelmeyer | 5/4/15 11:28 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

I normally don’t rant. But in the last days I’ve seen in various occasions comments about stuff that’s not working with a self-signed SSL host certificate. I’m seeing this especially in the Domino area where it was (is) easy to create a simple self-signed SSL host certificate for server xyz.company.com. In my opinion too easy.

By René Winkelmeyer | 2/1/15 10:28 AM | - | Added by Johnny Oldenburger

First of all: I haven’t expected that my previous blog post would create such a buzz… As I’ve received a great number of comment, mails, re-posts, re-tweets and so forth I’m taking this to get into some more details. I spent the last four years nearly exclusively in the mobile area in building products for Mobile Device Management, Mobile File Sharing and securing Mobile PIM.

Vaadin does client-side debugging right

By René Winkelmeyer | 1/7/15 1:02 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

One of the caveats when using server-side frameworks is that you often don't have real debugging possibilities for the client-side generated code. There are often no built-in tools to help the developer with that.

By René Winkelmeyer | 6/23/14 7:51 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

I’m a little late with this post as Apple’s WWDC conference happened nearly three weeks ago. But I don’t like to have things in draft mode – so here we go. I had the great opportunity to attend this years conference with my colleague Detlev. It was my second visit (first one was 2013).
