Domino 12.0.2 SAML Not Sending User to Originating URL

By Ted Hardenburgh | 2/23/23 3:43 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Fresh off the press is a new Knowledge Base article at HCL that describes an event where a user authenticating via SAML is not being sent to the originally requested URL after authentication, but is sent to the home URL for the site. This affects new or upgraded Domino 12.0.2 servers. The cause for this is the new default setting for samesite=strict that is added to the relay state cookie. The notes.ini setting DOMINO_RELAY_COOKIE_SAMESITE=0 will resolve this issue after restarting Domino.

Domino Actually Does Need To Be Restarted Regularly

By Ted Hardenburgh | 1/11/22 1:54 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

For those of us that have run Domino for a long time, one of our bragging points has been that Domino can run for a long time without needing a restart. This was especially true if we were running on System i/iSeries/AS400. Windows servers seemed less likely to have long times between restarts. Well, apparently this isn’t a great idea according to a new Defect Article from HCL Support. If Domino is running for about 248 days, the creation date of Domino documents can be incorrect if a copy-style compact or server restart isn’t performed.

Domino Transaction Logs and Drives with 4k Sectors

I’m working with a client moving their on-premises data center to Azure. We’re getting the first Domino servers configured there to test performance. I’m not an Azure expert, so the client is also working with someone who is. And while configuring the new servers for transaction logging, we came across and issue that neither had seen before. Azure uses 4k sector sizes on its drives by default and while that is working fine for the drives running the Domino progream and storing the Domino data, when we went to enable transaction logging, Domino crashed as the log files were being generated, just as the last file was being created.

More on HCL Domino V11 - this time on the updated (finally!) configuration of TLS ciphers for your internet protocols! I know - you couldn't wait for this exciting new feature as you really enjoy maintaining notes.ini parameters! This means the the ol’ SSLCipherSpec isn't needed any longer as we can use the Internet Site doc.

Domino V11 New Web Authentication Options

I have upgraded my lab server to Domino V11 and have started checking some of the new features out. First up, the new option to authenticate web users with their Notes ID passwords from the ID Vault. This is a really nice feature that is working as designed. This basicall allows you to not use the Internet password field.

Note to self: Host name is case-sensitive when deploying Sametime servers

Working on a Sametime install for a client and it's been a little while. I created the Community server deployment plan and started the install on the Community Server. The hostname is kindly populated for me from the OS. It's got some letters in upper case, but no worries. I click the Next button to get the list of available deployment plans and nothing, zip, nada shows in the window. Hmmm.

Installing Domino on Linux - Resolving missing requirements

Recently, I was installing the Domino 9.0 Social Edition on a new CentOS 6 Linux install. It started very smoothly, the CentOS install went very well and the system updates worked flawlessly. I prepped the notes user and group and was ready to install the Domino code.

Location document MailServer field - what not to use

Working with a client recently on some policy setting updates and we ran into an issue where the new policy wasn't taking effect on his client. We made the change to the policy (in this case an Archive policy) and could see that it had been processed and applied to the mail file. Checking the user's Notes client, the link to the Archive was not showing up.
