Domino Unix Start Script Tip: debug logs

By Daniel Nashed | 4/15/21 5:22 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Maybe I should start writing up tips for some not so well known function in the Domino start script for Linux & Unix .. I implemented some of the functionality just for my own convenience :-) For example when you want to debug an issue. just run "domino archivelog" once to archive your current logs into a zip.

Fixing the Tooltip function in XPages #2

By Patrick Kwinten | 4/15/21 5:21 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

In a previous post I wrote about the disfunction of the tooltip after validation with the Domino server. It turns out my gigia-form has a lot of fields with visibility properties set that are calculated after partial refresh. To have tooltip fixed for the fields that become visible during interaction with the user I needed to apply another patch.

Adé Nathan

By Andrew Magerman | 4/14/21 11:13 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Nathan T. Freeman passed away on 12th April 2021. He was one of the gurus of the Notes/Domino developer community, very much at the cutting edge of technology and always pushing the boundaries of what was possible with our beloved Notes stack. An early adopter of XPages, he was one of the first to show that one could significantly improve the quality of the XPages applications by concentrating on pure Java Development (which was unfortunately hidden under the covers of XPages), and also one of the first ones to eschew it.

LotusScript Declarations

By Paul Withers | 4/14/21 5:10 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Andi Kress

How can you get a “Type Mismatch” error in a Forall loop in LotusScript? This was the question a few of us hit with a recent bit of coding. You can’t declare the forall variable, and if you’re iterating over a variant containing only strings, surely this shouldn’t happen.

Fixing the Tooltip function in XPages

By Patrick Kwinten | 4/14/21 5:09 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Andi Kress

A colleague noticed that the tooltip function on a Xpage stopped working after submitting the page to the server and when the validation did not pass. The same behavior occurred when I added a computed text control that would spit out an anchor reference using a tooltip. Odd.

There have been a couple of important changes and additions in Beta 3 for CertMgr. Let me share the highlights from my point of view. And also give some tips to avoid current smaller pitfalls I heard in the community from others testing.

Thank you, Nathan!

By Oliver Busse | 4/13/21 2:29 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Today we mourn for one of our members of the community (aka the Yellow bubble), Nathan T. Freeman. If you are working in the Notes/Domino area for some years you definitely came across this name. Nathan was one of the busiest developers for decades, always exploring the borders of Notes and Domino and way beyond.

Goodbye, Nathan

It would be difficult to overstate Nathan T. Freeman's impact on the Domino community. I can only imagine he was similarly impactful in other parts of his life, but that's how I knew him. Back when I was first getting involved in Domino, he was one of the main people to follow. I'd read blogs and comments and know that with his name came something very much worth reading. His assertiveness came across clearly, but was immediately followed by the justification.

For Nathan T(eacher) Freeman

Today I read the sad news that Nathan T Freeman is no longer among us. I was actually googling last week, curious what he was working on.

Goodbye Nathan

By Paul Withers | 4/12/21 5:01 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

Over the weekend we lost another long-standing member of the Domino community, Nathan T Freeman. Nathan was outgoing, often controversial, but passionate about open source and helping others. Everyone who met him will have stories about him. But I know he is one of the individuals I have to thank for being where I am today.

R.I.P. Nathan

Today, we have lost our Co-Founder Nathan T. Freeman. Nathan was a fighter, an inspiration and a visionary. As one of the Founders of OpenNTF, he had a huge influence of how and what OpenNTF has become. Beside his contribution as a leader, he has also done the hard work of contributing code. Code that will be a part of his legacy to us. He had always a strong opinion and therefore also strong arguments. Disussions with him where always fun and intens at the same time.

Updating to Domino 11 FP3 in 30 seconds

By Daniel Nashed | 4/8/21 9:26 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Andi Kress

Domino 11.0.1 FP3 has been released and I added FP3 to our Docker Community GitHub project in the develop tree today. To update my servers I have created custom image. I first ran the standard ./build.sh domino. Afterwards I used the new domino_container script to build an add-on image containing my NashCom Tools and pushed it to my JForg registry. From there I can pull it on any of my servers.

Checking if database is encrypted with LotusScript (C API)

By Dmytro Pastovenskyi | 4/8/21 9:24 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Andi Kress

Since it's not possible to identify encryption status and level using native LotusScript/Java classes here is a way to do that. The solution is based on Notes CAPI (within LotusScript) but it works for both Linux/Windows environment.

HCL Domino 12 – Active Directory Password Sync

By Ulrich Krause | 4/7/21 6:05 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Active Directory Password Sync applies the Windows passwords of users registered in an Active Directory domain to their Domino HTTP and/or Notes ID passwords. To setup and configure Active Directory Password Sync, you need at least 2 Domino v12 servers. One server acts as Request Creator and the other one has the role Request Processor.

When you need OS Acces, but DON'T Have it, OPENNTF to the Rescue

By Keith Brooks | 4/6/21 9:52 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Picked up a new client from my home state with a small but necessary business, which they run on their HCL Domino application. The problem started when I realized I needed to scrape their old website from a hosting provider and then put it under HCL Domino. Simple enough to get the site files and fodlers, but when I went to add the site to Domino realized I did not have RDP/VPN/FTP access to their server at the OS level. What do I do?

HCL Domino/Notes 12 (Beta 3) - integrated Backup and Restore solution

Domino V12 Backup & Restore leveraging native Borg Backup Integration

By Daniel Nashed | 4/6/21 1:49 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Domino V12 Beta 3 introduces a Backup & Restore which is designed for easy integration with 3rd party backup solutions. The server tasks "backup" and "restore" are accompanied by a new dominobackup.ntf/nsf which holds all the configuration, logs and a database inventory. There is an admin friendly Notes based UI which allows you to restore databases with many options including restoring deleted documents and folders into the original database. The solution is intended to complement existing backup solutions and to make it easier for customers and partners to integrate with existing backup solutions which are not Domino aware today.

HCL Connections 7 – PDF Export Issues

After upgrading to HCL Connections 7, the new PDF Export feature didn't work. By clicking on the new "PDF" button inside the Wiki Page and trying to export it as a PDF, I would get an error in the GUI. In my two environments where I have encountered this, I had to do the following steps...

HCL Sametime Meetings 11.5 and LTPA version 2

By Milan Matejic | 4/1/21 3:39 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

As the LTPA Token version 2 is more secure than the LTPA Token version 1, it has become a new default for me. Lately I found out that the Sametime Meetings Server does not accept the LTPA Token v2 out of the box, more on that in the following. :-)

Adventures in CacheLand 2

By Paul Withers | 4/1/21 12:46 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

In my last blog post I talked about challenges we had to overcome as a team with regard to caching of constants. But a bigger challenge we hit was caching of design elements. Part of the solution we built required copying design elements from one database to another. Part of the beauty of Domino is that everything is a Note - including design elements. Design elements are just Notes with a special flag. So just as you can copy a document from one database to another by getting a handle on the note, you can also copy a design element from one database to another by getting a handle on the design note.

Domino 12 beta 3: subtile UI changes

By Oliver Busse | 4/1/21 12:44 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Now I want to focus on some improvements of the UI of the standard client. I am not talking about the new 64bit basic client which looks like... R6.5 Let's forget about that for a minute There were several posts in the forum about the new workspace, the tabs, the sidebar and the new templates. I also posted my 2 cents to that and look what we got with beta 3: some improvements (I will name those that didn't make to beta 3 in the end).
